Gerald J. Letourneau received his Masters in Taxation from New York University School of Law in 1964 and his Juris Doctor, with honors,  from Washburn School of Law in 1962.  In 1959 he graduated magna cum laude from Benedictine College with a Bachelor of Science degree in Business and Accounting.

While in law school Mr. Letourneau was the editor-in-chief of the Washburn Law Journal and the New York University Intramural Law Review.

Mr. Letourneau has worked as a reseach attorney for the Kansas Supreme Court and has been practicing law in Topeka for more than 40 years.  He was a senior member of Colmery, McClure, Letourneau, Merriam, and Stauffer, P.A. when that firm consolidated its practice with Goodell, Stratton, Edmonds & Palmer, L.L.P. in 1987.

Mr. Letourneau has experience in all areas of income tax and estate tax, estate planning and probate, as well as business and tax planning for corporations and partnerships, including acquisitions and mergers.  He has practiced at all levels of the Internal Revenue Service and Kansas Department of Revenue in the areas of income, estate, and inheritance tax matters.  He has extensive experience before the Kansas Board of Tax Appeals in real estate, personal property, and sale tax controversies.

Active in numerous civic and community organizations, Mr. Letourneau has served as an officer and two-term member of the School Board of Hayden High School, an officer and two-term member of the Board of Directors of the Topeka Community Mental Health Association, Vice President and three-term member of the Parish Council of St. Matthew’s Church, and Trustee for The Villages, Inc.

Mr. Letourneau has prepared “Estate Tax Notes” for the Kansas Bar Association Newsletter.  He is past-Chairman and member of the Washburn University Law Institute.  He is a frequent speaker at seminars and educational programs sponsored by the Kansas and Topeka Bar Associations, Washburn University School of Law, and St. Francis Hospital Foundation.

Mr. Letourneau is a member of the American, Kansas, Topeka Bar Associations, serving a President of the Topeka Bar Association from 1992-1993.  He is listed in Best Lawyers in America and is admitted to practice before the United States Supreme Court.
