Tracy A. Cole, a Kansas native, obtained her undergraduate degree from the University of Kansas in 1980 with a double major in Accounting and Business Administration. After six years in private business, she returned to the University of Kansas School of Law and earned her Juris Doctor in 1989.

Tracy began her legal career and became a partner at a law firm in Wichita, Kansas, where she developed her litigation skills, particularly in insurance defense and medical malpractice defense. In 1998, Tracy moved to Hutchinson, Kansas, and joined the Gilliland & Hayes firm. During her 22 years there, she focused on medical malpractice defense while maintaining an active trial practice representing defendants in both State and Federal Courts, including numerous medical providers.

Tracy has argued cases before the Kansas Court of Appeals, the Kansas Supreme Court, and the 10th Circuit Court of Appeals. She continues to maintain an active statewide litigation practice with an emphasis on defending medical providers both in the courtroom and before licensing authorities.

Tracy is a member of the Kansas Bar Association, Kansas Association of Defense Counsel (KADC), and Topeka Bar Association. She served as a KADC board member for several years, including serving as President in 2010.

Her civic involvement includes serving as a Girl Scout leader, truancy volunteer, and board president of both Roots & Wings in Sedgwick County and Big Brothers Big Sisters of Reno County.
